Manyata could face legal action
The withdrawal of Sanjay and Manyata’s wedding plans in Goa is as significant as it is sudden. After a mandatory minimum 15-day and maximum three-month window period, the bride and groom were to make their second and final declaration to solemnise their wedding.
The second affidavit signals the completion of the process and the marriage is only then solemnised, registered and valid.
So the process was yet incomplete for Sanjay and Manyata when it got mired in controversy. The authorities, who prima facie found that the Goa residence certificate given by Manyata was questionable, kept the marriage registration on hold after suspending the certificate.
Manyata was served a show cause notice to explain why her six-month residence certificate - a mandatory requirement in Goa for a marriage to be valid - should not be cancelled.
